Ball State Achievements is a mobile app that gamifies the Ball State experience in an effort to increase student engagement and retention. Students earn credits by completing tasks – like attending events, making the Dean’s List, or exploring campus – and cash in those credits for real stuff at the Ball State bookstore. I assisted in the initial conceptualization, design, and project management of the mobile apps and administrative backend. The app was used as the basis of a successful $100,000 Next Generation Learning Challenges Breakthrough Models Incubator grant application in 2014 and has been written about in publications including The New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
